‘In praise of the humble record shop…..’

I settled in during the week to watch ‘All Things Must Pass – The Tower Records Story’. I wasn’t disappointed. The story went like this – company founder Russ Solomon’s dad had what was essentially a corner shop selling everything from a needle to an anchor. Russ suggested that maybe they could sell second hand records too, there might be a buck to be made. His dad agreed and it went from there. The company grew from one store in Sacramento California to a globe spanning chain including a store in Dublin….

“It’s wonderful to be here, it’s certainly a thrill….”

Trundling my way along through the hallowed halls of TCRfm the other week I was accosted by the station’s head of social media, the Supremo himself. “Oi CK, have you got a blog post for me, for the website?” he asked. “Yes, yes of course I do. I promised to myself that I’d re-visit it a year on though, because with Valentine’s Day in the offing I want to put some irresistible love songs your way. Some may be familiar to you but I’m confident there are at least a few curveballs you won’t know but are worth your time to investigate so you can play them to your beloved on the Big Day. He/she won’t be disappointed, I promise!…

YOU HAVE BEEN LOVED…….

YOU HAVE BEEN LOVED…….

2016 took a phenomenal number of people from the world of entertainment prompting much hand wringing and cries of “Oh my God, what’s happening? The world’s gone crazy!” Well, no. Not really. Let’s be brutally honest here, the vast majority of those who died were actually elderly, in their late 60s or 70s. It doesn’t make their loss any less sad but it is a stark reality nevertheless. George Michael was different, aged just 53 is shockingly young….
