Counting of votes for the Waterford constituency began at 9am this morning at the Butler Community Centre in St. John’s Park in Waterford City. Fine Gael’s John Deasy was elected on the third count.

The contenders for the final seat include Labour’s Seamus Ryan, Fianna Fáil’s Brendan Kenneally, Sinn Féin’s David Culliane and Independent John Halligan.

Waterford County Council have said today that overnight water shut offs will continue in Tramore until further notice. The water will be shut off each night at 8pm until 8am the next morning.

Repairs undertaken on Monday and Tuesday have resulted in significantly improved reservoir levels, however shut offs are still necessary while leak detection and repair works are ongoing.

In the meantime Waterford County Council is appealing to water consumers to conserve water in order to minimise disruption to supplies. The Council is also asking consumers and key holders of holiday homes and commercial properties to check individual properties for leaks and to effect repairs as quickly as possible.

For further information on water restrictions throughout County Waterford, see Waterford County Council’s website
