Islamic State claims responsibility and blames France

  • It is now known that at least 127 people are feared to have been killed and some 180 wounded, At least 80 are in critical condition after a series of devastating attacks across Paris.
  • Six places were targeted, almost simultaneously.

 

Paris Shootings

 

  • Isil has said in a statement, written in French and Arabic, and an audio message claiming responsibility for the attacks, and warning it is the "first of a storm".
  • They say that France will remain a top target as long as it continues its policies, and the attacks were a response to insults of Islam's prophet and airstrikes in Isil territory.
  • Eight attackers are reported to have died,, seven of them by detonating explosive suicide belts.
  • French Police continue to search for accomplices who might still be at large.
  • Two hundred people were injured, 80 of them seriously.
  • Shootings and explosions were reported in six locations across the city, including the Stade de France in northern Paris, where two suicide attacks and a bombing took place as the national team played Germany in a friendly football match.

 

 

  • The majority of victims died after a mass shooting inside the Bataclan concert venue.

 

 

  • Shootings also took place in restaurants and other sites in the centre of the city
  • President François Hollande has declared a state of emergency and ordered increased checks at the borders

 

Also this morning  an evacuation happened at Gatwick Airport around 10am following the discovery of  suspect package, and passengers were reportedly told to stay away from glass windows after the alarm was raised. The airport tweeted: "Due to an incident – the North Terminal has been evacuated as a precautionary measure.

 

 

The terminal has since reopened, however Ports and airports remain on high alert following the Paris attacks, although at this time, there is no evidence of a connection between the gatwick & Paris incidents
