Visual Sparks – mining art as a source of ideas

28 April 2014 Latest News Local News News

Free Writing Workshop in Greyfriars Gallery Wed. 7 May 2.00pm – 3.30pm

Writers mine for ideas in all kinds of places – in the lives of other people, in their own, in familiar locations and strange ones. In this writing workshop, Waterford-based novelist, artist and curator Mary Grehan introduces participants to the Exotica exhibition, a selection of paintings from the Municipal Art Collection of Waterford City Council in Greyfriars Gallery.

Participants will be encouraged to respond imaginatively to their favourite painting and find in it a story/ poem to write.

Mary Grehan’s debut novel ‘Love is the Easy Bit’ was published by Penguin in 2013. Mary studied Ceramics at the National College of Art and Design, Arts Management at UCD and Arts and Health at the University of Central Lancashire, UK, and is now Director of the Waterford Healing Arts Trust, Ireland’s leading arts and health programme based at Waterford Regional Hospital. www.marygrehan.com. Hosted by the Europe Direct Info. Centre.

This workshop is free but paces are limited. Please book in Central Library or phone 051-849975.

This is part of the Bealtaine Festival programme of events which runs throughout the month of May. Full programmes are available in your local Library branch
