This week in Country & Irish
All the goings on in the Country & Irish World, Its an exciting time in the country and Irish Music Scene with new artists coming on to the scene and current ones bringing country to a new generation of listeners. This blog will hopefully keep you up to date on all the goings on in the Country scene along with bringing you new music from the Irish music scene also and letting you know where you can catch all your favourite country stars in concert. We will also profile one particular artist who is up and coming in the Country Music scene.
Elle Marie O’Dwyer from Cork brings a little bit of magic. The recent release of her album, On A Day Like This, shows a little change of direction and her target a whole new and receptive audience.
All-Ireland titles at the National Fleadh and Scór honours along the way have gained respect for Elle Marie as a keeper of the flame. She has made a number of appearances on Fleadh TV on TG4.
Her last album, A Roving Heart, did really well for her and Two of the most popular numbers from that album were My Heart’s Tonight In Ireland and My Home At The Foot of Slieve Bloom.
Elle Marie’s new 12-track compilation spreads the net and yet remains so true to the style that the Cork girl. The opening song, Brave Ireland, is penned by Elle Marie and old favourites such as Sweet Forget Me Not and many more Irish ballads on the collection make it a great Album.
The title track, On A Day Like This, was a song she heard from a album by PJ Murrihy, also songs like All Along the Wild Atlantic Way is a new song composed by Aoife Scott, daughter of the legendary singer Mary Black and Enda Reilly, Other songs include Ellis Island, The town I loved so well, The Tennessee Waltz, I’ll be all smiles tonight and the Christie Hennessy song Remember me all feature.
Elle Marie launched the new album earlier this month before a major crowd in the Charleville Arms Hotel, where the guests included the recently crowned All-Ireland Céilí Band champions, The Shandrum CB from Cork, and PJ Murrihy.
Homeland from Derek
Homeland is the new single from Derek Ryan. It is a track taken from his album, The Fire, which goes on general release this week. The album is being launched at the National Ploughing Champions in Tullamore.
The song Homeland is dedicated to his home county of Carlow and encapsulates memories and feelings for the land at the foot of Mount Leinster. A video for the song has also been shot on location in Co Carlow.
Leslie leads the way
Wexford man Leslie Dunne gives us a taste of what to expect from his new solo Gospel album, with the early release of the single In The Sweet By and By.
We look forward to The new 13-track album and wish leslie the very best with it.
Beyond the Sunset from Philomena
Philomena McGovern O’Brien has opted for the gospel, Beyond the Sunset, for her latest single. The Clare-based Cavan native has made a fine recovery from a health issue in recent years and is back performing shows on the circuit at home and abroad.
Also new singles this week from Maeve Farrell with Dancing Queen, an exciting Re-work of the Abba classic but with a country twist, Gina Kelly brings out a 3 track EP called A chance would be a fine thing. We wish both huge success with these releases.
Also a few concerts to look forward to in the coming months include, At the Rhu Glenn Country Club you can dance to Cliona hagan on Saturday 18th November 2017, and a bit closer is dancing to Michael Collins from 9pm and the fabulous Lisa Mchugh from 11pm, all on the 7th October, Then on the 28th October Michael English takes to the stage.
Also coming to The Cappoquinn Community Centre on January 8th are the three Amigos who have recently brought out a new single Still not dead. Three Amigos of course consist of Patrick Feeney, Jimmy Buckley and Robert Mizzell. For further details you can contact the venues directly.
